Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne Churchill

January 7, 2013

The Cigar: Tabacalera Perdomo has not yet scored it big maybe – the Estate Selección remains to this day its only cigar to score a 93 on the mighty Cigar Aficionado – but Perdomo cigars are well-known to the discerning smoker for their good quality at an affordable price. The 10th Anniversary line has a name that doesn’t need to be commented, I can only add that it was released in 2008 and it is in fact three lines we are talking about: with Criollo, Maduro and Connecticut – Champagne here – wrappers.

The Smoke: At 7×54 this is a rather fat Churchill – 48 being the traditional ring size – but it’s fine, Sir Winston himself wasn’t that slim. The color of the wrapper is very beautiful, you look at it and you understand why they have called it Champagne. Draw and burning are perfect from the start, before lighting you can perceive sweet aromas – almond mainly, coconut – and various degrees of lightly spiced sweetness will be the hallmark of this smoke with a marked presence of coffee and a good – but not overwhelming – amount of creamy smoke. This is a complex and elegant cigar, not much strength – it’s medium only in its final third – but strength isn’t the reason why you choose a cigar with a Connecticut wrapper.

The Score:  90
